NCAT's first Bike Education Class in Spanish

Updated: May 1, 2023

Luis Alfonso Santiago Montiel, New Haven League Cycling Instructor (LCI), recently taught the first NCAT bike education class in Spanish and it was a family affair! Joined by family and friends, Luis, aka Poncho, gathered an enthusiastic group of children and adults for a bike education class that was fun and exciting. Poncho said he enjoyed helping the families become comfortable riding their bikes safely and confidently. Proving that riding a bike is for everyone, Poncho, who is a top mechanic at The Devil’s Gear Bike Shop, taught the ABC Quick Check, how to be “ride ready,” the importance of following the rules of the road, why proper lane positioning keeps cyclists safe and how to ride with confidence. Held at mActivity, a Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) of the League of American Bicyclists, Poncho took the group to a nearby parking lot to practice bike drills. Then he led them on a group ride on nearby streets. NCAT congratulates Poncho for becoming an LCI and spreading the joy of cycling by teaching. Thanks to Poncho, NCAT looks forward to offering more classes in Spanish and welcoming more families.
